Congressman Jeff Denham
The Alumni Hall of Fame inductee for 2015, is Congressman Jeff Denham who currently represents the 10th District of California in the United States House of Representatives.
Denham is a 1989 graduate of Victor Valley College who served both as the ASB President and Captain of the Rams Football team. He quipped upon notification that it was at VVC that his political career started. Denham officially began his public service career by serving 16 years in the US Air Force. He owned a small business and was twice elected to serve in the California State Senate.
Enlisting at the age of 17, Dehnam served on active and reserve status for 16 years in the United States Air Force and is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal for his service during Operation Desert Storm (Iraq) and Operation Restore Hope (Somalia). In 2006 he was honored by the California National Guard with its highest military award, the “Order of California” service award for distinguished service.
After he graduated from Victor Valley College, Denham graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He worked in the agriculture industry as an almond rancher and entrepreneur opening several successful agriculture-based businesses.
Denham served two terms in the California State Senate, representing the 12th District, which includes Madera, Merced, Monterey, San Benito and Stanislaus Counties. He focused his efforts in the state legislature on education, agriculture, and job creation. He called for a reduction in government waste in Sacramento, better use of state surplus assets, and a crackdown on sexual predators. His deep understanding of the Central Valley’s economy helped Denham to promote job creation, while improving the state’s long term climate for agriculture and working to expand water storage.
Denham received the “Legislator of the Year” award from the California Small Business Association, an A+ score from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and a 100% perfect score with the California Taxpayers’ Association for his voting record.
In Congress, Denham serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Agriculture Committee and the Natural Resources Committee. As a U.S. Congressman, Denham remains focused on representing the long-term interests of California’s agricultural businesses, finding a solution to the long struggle over water storage and conveyance, transportation interests in California and fighting for the rights, protections and benefits America’s brave and heroic veterans deserve. He is also an advocate for a top-to-bottom approach to reform for our broken immigration system.
Denham married his wife, Sonia five years after graduating from Victor Valley College and together they have two children, Austin and Samantha.
